Boat Description

Design & Build

Built in 1990…..”Manna” is beauty, history and safety all wrapped into one.

Manna is based on a traditional Fredette 1940’s ex-cod boat design. Built in1990 by “legend in wood” builder, Martin North of Fanny Bay, BC. One of his last boats, he built over 100 in his lifetime by hand.

She is planked with rich 1-1/4″ red cedar on 1″ x 2″ oak frames. Her keels old growth Douglas fir and her deadwood, horn timber, stern post and knees are natural crooks (bends) made of Yew wood (tuff stuff!). Fastened with galvanized iron square bolt nails and keel bolted with 5/8″ galvanized iron carriage bolts.

Manna’s dead wood, horn timber, rudder post and stern post are sandwiched between 2 large 6′ x 2 1/2″ x 6″ Gumwood gussets. Forward of this massively overbuilt area are two 3″ x 5″ thick solid bulkheads.

Decks are Alaskan Yellow Cedar

Hardware is with stainless, bronze or brass.

Trailerable beam and height with fold down mast.

Enough room for 2 on the cockpit sole for sleeping!
